This show was so awesome! starts out with old school lo-fi punk/rock
from the 70s and 80s, then goes a little r&b'sy garage then really
mellows out and I have a sweet ambient part that i did a little
bit of cd player glitch work+two tracks at once.
ENJOY

cool dump part 2

dump of cool stuff

Hey, so i'm gonna have my last show next week so listen up! I'll probably sub a show now and then and post it, or maybe once a month or so I'll record an internet only show or something, make it hi-fi or something. But with this extra free time, i'll probably throw in these "dump of cool stuff" posts!

Here's something I got from Trotsky from The Crimson Airwaves on KDVS (http://kdvs.org/shows/view/show_id/939)!
  • The Desperate Bicycles
http://www.derekerdman.com/ilovemilkshakes/october2004/Desperate_Bicycles_Anthology/desperatebicycles.htm
You can download their discography here! They're an old group started in the late 70s, and did the whole cool DIY thing which I am a sucker for, especially when its from way back then. They got this janky pop rock sound and the lyrics are basically about encouraging DIY, talking trash on corporate music, and they even have a song about riding yr bike over car! Name-dropping wise, reminds of the Monks without the experimental side.

Now for some choice pick new releases at KUCI!

  • Shonen Knife- Supergroup [www.myspace.com/shonenknife]
Pretty stoked these girls are still around and sound good! Excellent simple pop-punk from three Japanese girls who've been around since the 80s, first brought to America by K Records. Now they are mom-age which is kind of weird.

  • Mason Lindahl - Serrated Man Sound [myspace.com/masonlindahlsongs]
I generally am not a big fan of folk, but I really like this one. Sorta melancholy and lo-fi, and certain songs use tasteful guitar virtuoso+experimentation that have a reason to be there. Luv the opening track on this one.
  • Mystery Of Two - Self titled [myspace.com/mysteryoftwo]
This trio rocks in the some way as 90s indie rock like Volcano Suns and early Dino. Jr does. Cool but not over the top guitar leads, fast paced, raw and hectic but still melodic.
  • Maserati- Passages [myspace.com/maseratirocks]
Pretty groovy/proggy instrumental jams right here, its even got 3 remixes on it. Thanks to the bass lines and drums, you can really get into the
groove on this one which is cool, I guess it sort of sounds like Tortoise
if they were more upbeat and move-able.

  • Various Artists- The Sound of Wonder [finders keepers records]
Another release from one of my new favorite labels. This time its acompilation of Pakistani pop from "Lollywood" films during 1973-80. Features a lot of moog and some other early electronic instrument experimentation, as well as in-depth liner notes. Lots of interesting stuff to be heard on here, but my favorite tracks are the first three. Especially the first one, its the happiest song I have ever goddamn heard.

  • Pens- Hey Friend, what are you doing? [myspace.com/penspenspenis]
Riot grrrrrrrrl skronked through a lo-fi pop punk fuzz filter. Gets surprisingly catchy despite how abrasive some of the other songs are. They do have a song called "yeah baby! I'll take you to bagel town" so that is really worth it alone.

  • Olekranon- Recycle Human Lung
We've got a few releases from this guy and I've loved them all. This might be my favorite yet, a great mix of industrial and shoegazer, with two or three ambient tracks. Since I can't find a myspace or anything for this, look at his art exhibit that does not sound like this cd.

  • Marmoset- Tea Tornado [myspace.com/marmoset]
Stripped-down lo-fi old school indie a la Sebadoh and Beat Happening. Not to say that these guys are pretending to be retro, Marmoset has been around since the 90s too. Nice short songs with this bizarre feeling of sentimentality that is just a little off kilter and difficult to explain but boy do I love it. Hazy but not psychedelic, catchy but not saccharine.
